Ishqiya Movie Review / Critic’s Comments:
Good Debut by director and writer Abhishek Chaubey and well scripted by Vishal Bharadwaj and Sabrina Dhawan. Ishqiya has loose traces of 2001′s Barry Levinson Comedy, Bandits (2 conmen loving a single woman) but thats where the similarity ends. The casting is perfect and out of the 3, Naseeruddin Shah excels as Khalujan. It is sad that India’s finest actor is hardly getting roles suited for him. Arshad Warsi and Vidya Balan play their roles well and so do the supporting cast. The score by Vishal and the songs by Gulzar are first rate. As is the cinematogarohy by Mohana Krishna and the crisp editing by Namrata Rao. All in all, i would give this movie 4 stars out of 5. Out of the 3 movies released this week, Road to Sangam is still the best and this one comes a close second.
Psst –
1) The movie, besides having cuss words, was in the news for a steamy love scene and a kiss scene between Vidya Balan and Arshad Warsi. Reportedly, it was Arshad who was apprehensive about the scene due to his real life marriage facing turbulent times during the making of the movie.
2) Abhishek Chaubey had been an assisstant Director to Vishal Bharadwaj since 2005 and Vishal wanted him to direct this film which he was producing and co-scripting.
3) The movie was shown to a trial audience (Comprising of many ladies) in November 2009. The female audiences didnt react well to the explicit language that was used in the film. Many Scenes, were re-shot keeping the reaction in mind. One song, Ibn-e-Batuta, which was picturised on the lead actors was deleted from the final cut and only used in promos and in the background at the start.

1) “Kaisa lagriya hu ? Chu*** Sulphate.”
2) “Mujhe is haramzadi se Ishq ho gaya hai.”
3) “Tumhara ishq, ishq aur humara ishq, sex ?”
